    SDK Privacy Policy

    What the ByteConnect SDK does — and does not — collect from your device.

    Hi there! If you are here, you probably want to learn about ByteConnect's privacy practices concerning the SDK that you agreed to enable as part of the application you are using.

    This page has two parts: (1) an overview of the privacy policy, written in simple English, and (2) the official, legal privacy policy. The overview is provided for information purposes only. In case of any conflict between the two parts, the official legal privacy policy takes precedence.

    This policy covers the ByteConnect SDK. It is separate from the Privacy Policy that applies to the ByteConnect website and dashboard.

    1. ByteConnect SDK privacy in simple terms

    Let's be very clear: we don't know who you are, and we don't know what you do online.

    • We don't know your name or your email address.
    • We don't see the web pages you visit, the apps you use, or what you do inside them.
    • We don't read your files, photos, messages, contacts, or browsing history.
    • We don't build a profile about you or track you across apps.
    • We don't show you ads, and the SDK does not mine cryptocurrency on your device.
    • Since we don't hold that kind of information about you, we have nothing of that kind to sell or share with anyone.

    So what does the SDK actually do? When you enable it, your device lends a small amount of its unused internet bandwidth to the ByteConnect network. Verified business customers use that network to route ordinary web requests — for example, to check publicly available prices or market data. That is how the developer of the app you are using earns revenue instead of filling the app with ads.

    What we do see. To make this work and keep it secure, we see your IP address and basic technical information about your device — such as its model, operating system version, connection type, and approximate (city-level) location. By the way, you know who else sees your IP address? Every website you visit and every app you use. Try searching "what is my IP address" and you'll see it on screen.

    You are always in control. Taking part is your choice. You can opt out at any time in the settings of the app you installed, or by uninstalling that app. When you opt out, the SDK stops using your device's bandwidth.

    To summarize: search engines, social networks and ad networks all need information about you to decide which ads to show you. ByteConnect is different. We don't display ads, we don't collect your personal content, and we don't track you. Now, feel free to read the full policy below.

    2. Our official privacy policy

    ByteConnect Ltd., a company registered in Israel under company number 517005765, with its registered office at Haarbaa 28, Tel Aviv 6473925, Israel ("ByteConnect," "we," or "us"), is the provider of the ByteConnect software development kit (the "SDK") and the ByteConnect peer network and related services (collectively, the "Services").

    This Privacy Policy is a legally binding agreement between you ("user" or "you") and us. By enabling the SDK and using the Services, you agree to and accept the terms of this Privacy Policy as amended from time to time, and consent to the collection and use of information in the manner set out below. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please opt out of the SDK and, where relevant, uninstall the hosting application.

    In addition to this policy, please review our SDK End User License Agreement, which is incorporated herein by reference, together with such other policies of which you may be notified by us from time to time.

    The Services

    ByteConnect provides bandwidth-sharing and web data collection infrastructure. ByteConnect gives its verified business customers the ability to route web requests through the available, unused resources of peers. ByteConnect treats certain devices of peers as nodes in the ByteConnect network used to operate the Services. Peers agree to share their available bandwidth and become part of the network so that the developer of the hosting application can earn revenue and offer an ad-free or enhanced experience.

    What types of information do we collect?

    Non-Personal Information. This is information that cannot on its own be used to identify the user from whom it was collected. It includes aggregated usage information and technical information transmitted by your device, such as approximate (city-level) geo-location, hardware specifications and device model, operating system and SDK version, connection type and network characteristics, diagnostic and error logs, and aggregate participation statistics such as uptime and data volume, together with the respective time stamps.

    Personal Information. Personal Information is information that identifies or may identify you. The Personal Information we may collect and retain is your IP address, together with any device identifier used to operate the Services, which is necessary in order to provide the Services and to record your consent. Any Non-Personal Information that is specifically connected or linked to Personal Information is treated by us as Personal Information for as long as that link exists.

    We do not collect your name, email address, browsing history, application content, files, photos, messages, or contacts through the SDK.

    Legal basis for processing

    Processing of Personal Information is necessary for the performance of our contractual obligations towards you and the provision of the Services, is based on your consent where consent is required, is necessary to protect our legitimate interests in securing and improving the network, and is necessary to comply with our legal obligations. We process personal data in accordance with applicable data protection law, including the Israeli Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981, and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), where applicable.

    How we use the information we collect

    • To provide and operate the Services, including audits and calculation of fees;
    • To maintain network quality, measure performance and uptime, and optimize routing;
    • To detect and prevent illegal activity, activity that violates our terms, or any other activity that may jeopardize or negatively affect the integrity or security of the Services;
    • To perform analysis and research in order to improve the Services; and
    • To record and evidence your consent, and to comply with legal obligations.

    Information we share

    We do not rent, sell, or share your Personal Information with third parties except as described in this Privacy Policy.

    We may transfer or disclose Personal Information to our subsidiaries, affiliated companies, subcontractors, or other trusted third-party service providers or partners, who may be located in different jurisdictions across the world, for the purpose of: (a) storing or processing such information on our behalf (for example, on cloud computing services), assisting us with our business operations, authenticating access, and providing and improving the Services; or (b) performing research, technical diagnostics, analytics or statistical work.

    We share aggregated, non-identifying statistics (such as active participation, data volume and uptime) with the developer or publisher of the hosting application in order to measure participation and calculate their payouts.

    We may also share Personal Information and other information in special cases if we have good reason to believe that it is necessary to: (1) comply with law, regulation, subpoena or court order; (2) detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud, security, violation of our policies, or technical issues; (3) enforce the provisions of this Privacy Policy or any other agreement between you and us; or (4) protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of ByteConnect, its partners, its affiliates, its users, or the public.

    Security and confidentiality

    We use industry-standard security tools and measures, as well as internal procedures and strict guidelines, to prevent information misuse and data leakage. These include encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and monitoring. Our employees and contractors access information on a need-to-know basis and subject to confidentiality obligations.

    We use measures and procedures that substantially reduce the risks of data misuse, but we cannot guarantee that our systems will be absolutely safe. If you become aware of any potential data breach or security vulnerability, you are requested to contact us immediately at [email protected] and we will investigate the incident and take the measures required.

    Since we operate globally, it may be necessary to transfer your Personal Information to other countries worldwide. In these instances, we take steps to ensure that a similar level of protection is given to your Personal Information through adequate legal mechanisms, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, in accordance with the GDPR.

    Your choices and retention

    We value your privacy and your control over your personal information. Participation in the ByteConnect network is voluntary, and you may opt out at any time through the settings of the hosting application, or by uninstalling that application. Once you opt out, the SDK stops using your device's resources.

    You may also notify us that you wish to review, correct or delete your Personal Information by sending an email to [email protected].

    For EU residents: the following rights specifically apply regarding your Personal Information: (1) receive confirmation as to whether or not Personal Information concerning you is being processed, and access your stored Personal Information together with supplementary information; (2) receive a copy of Personal Information you directly volunteered to us in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format; (3) request rectification of your Personal Information that is in our control; (4) request erasure of your Personal Information; (5) object to the processing of Personal Information by us; (6) request to restrict processing of your Personal Information by us; and (7) lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Please note that these rights are not absolute and may be subject to our own legitimate interests and regulatory requirements.

    For California residents: you have the right not to be discriminated against for having exercised your rights under the CCPA. Unless permitted by the CCPA, we will not:

    • Deny you goods or services;
    • Charge you different prices or rates for goods or services, including through granting discounts or other benefits, or imposing penalties;
    • Provide you a different level or quality of goods or services; or
    • Suggest that you may receive a different price or rate for goods or services, or a different level or quality of goods or services.

    We will retain your Personal Information for the duration required to provide the Services, and as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our policies. We may rectify, replenish or remove incomplete or inaccurate information at any time at our own discretion.

    Children's privacy

    The SDK may only be enabled by individuals who are at least 16 years old and at least the legal age permitted by the applicable jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals below that age. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected information from such an individual without proper consent, we will promptly delete it.

    Change of ownership

    In the event of a change of ownership or control of all or part of ByteConnect, including without limitation through acquisition, merger, or sale, we reserve the right to transfer all or part of the Personal Information we store in our systems, subject to continued protection under this Privacy Policy.

    Changes to this Privacy Policy

    This policy may be revised from time to time at our sole discretion, so please check it regularly. The last revision is reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Services following any such change will be considered as your consent to the amended Privacy Policy.

    Governing law

    This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Israel, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any disputes shall be exclusively subject to the competent courts of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Israel.
